Tech News Roundup for November 2, 2020

Here are a few of the stories I found interesting over the weekend. The news is pretty light, probably due to the upcoming US election. I expect the rest of the week to be dominated by that, so the week may be light on news as well.

Apple Announces a “One More Thing” event

On Monday morning Apple announced a virtual event that will be broadcast on November 10th.  This will be Apple’s 3rd event in as many months, an unusual move for the company probably largely influenced by product delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Apple had previously announced that the first ARM based Mac computer would be launching before the end of the year, so it is almost certainly going to be the main product announced during this presentation.

NASA Celebrates 20 years of continuous habitation of the International Space Station

A really good read about the history and future of the International Space Station, as orbiting outpost celebrates 20 years of crew habitation.  I don’t have much else to add, except to say that space is cool.

Raspberry Pi Foundation Announces New Computer

The Raspberri Pi Foundation has announced and released a new model of its Raspberri Pi 4 computer, the Raspberry Pi 400.  This is a complete departure from previous Raspberry Pi computers in that it is built into a keyboard to make it a more approachable form factor.  Simply plug in power, a monitor, and a mouse and there is a fully functioning computer inside of the keyboard.

The Raspberry Pi foundation believes that this product will be useful for both work and play, and there is little doubt the form factor is cool.  We will see if this gains any traction.  I think it will sell very well for a Raspberry Pi, but will not be a mainstream product.
